The Arenal Volcano is located amidst the Arenal Volcano National Park in the Northern Region of the country, 15 kilometers southwest of the town of La Fortuna. The conically shaped volcano measures at least 1,633 meters. Arenal’s crater spans 140 meters. The volcanic activity has become rare, with no explosions reported since December 2010.
